About Me
¡Hola y bienvenido!
I’m Señora Megan, the founder of Explore! Spanish Language Tutoring. With a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, an ESL Certification from National Louis University, and extensive experience teaching Spanish to various age groups, I’ve dedicated my career to helping students discover the joy of learning a new language. My teaching style incorporates a variety of techniques, including comprehensible input, communicative activities, and technology-based programs, to create engaging and effective lessons.
My passion for Spanish language and culture has been shaped by my own study abroad experience in Seville, Spain, and multiple class trips I’ve led to Spain as a high school teacher. In addition to teaching at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels, I’ve enjoyed coaching softball at various levels and contributing to my local community as a PTA Chairperson.

my methodology
My teaching methodology combines a language learning concept called Comprehensible Input with the “5Cs” of language learning, tied together in practice with Task Based Learning (TBL) to create engaging and effective lessons for students of all ages.
Here’s some some information on each…
5Cs Learning
Representing: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities – this model, endorsed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, encourages students to use Spanish in real-life contexts, understand and appreciate Hispanic cultures, connect their Spanish learning with other subjects, compare Spanish with their native language, and use Spanish within and beyond the school setting.
It’s a great way to make the material stick, and to start the process of connecting with others in the Spanish community for a love of lifelong language learning!
Comprehensible input
Comprehensible input refers to the language input (spoken or written) that learners receive and can understand, even if they might not be able to produce the same level of language themselves.
The idea is that when learners are exposed to language input that is slightly above their current level of proficiency but still understandable, they can gradually acquire new vocabulary, grammar, and language structures.
Tasked Based Learning
Task-Based Learning (TBL) is an educational approach that centers around the use of meaningful tasks as the core for language instruction. Rather than focusing on traditional grammar and vocabulary drills, TBL immerses students in real-life scenarios where language is used as a tool to accomplish specific, relatable objectives.
This method encourages active learning through problem-solving, collaboration, and communication, fostering a practical mastery of the target language as students engage directly with tasks that simulate authentic situations they might encounter outside the classroom.
